Independence Gray®/TCS II Satin (Type 304 Architectural Grade Stainless Steel) & Freedom Gray® (DHP Copper) are both coated with Revere Copper Inc.’s hot dipped Z-T Alloy™ (50% Tin / 50% Zinc) coating. Revere’s patented coating process applies a uniform 13 microns minimum of Z-T Alloy™ to both sides of the Stainless Steel or Copper substrate. The coated material is then passed through high pressure rollers resulting in a micro embossed low glare satin finish.

The extremely corrosion resistant Z-T Alloy™ coating is Oxygen reactive and weathers to form an attractive rich earth tone Grey patina. The “Terne” coating provides outstanding resistance against severely corrosive atmospheres, including those encountered in chemically polluted, Chlorine laden and marine environments.

These “Terne” coated products are among the most versatile and corrosion resistant architectural materials available today.

Warranties & Maintenance

Terne (Z-T Alloy™) coated products have a manufacturer’s NON PERFORATION warranty of 25 years if installed and handled according to approved technical details and methods as supplied.

AESTHETIC DISCLAIMER

The oxidation process that gives Terne Coated products their characteristic rich earthy grey patina is a result of exposure to the atmosphere in the location that it is installed. This process can vary due to the various pollutants that it may come into contact with. This patina eventually covers the surface and adheres tightly to it, thus providing a protective layer against further weathering. As this is a natural process dependent on the location of the Terne Coated material and the conditions that it is exposed to, Ambro Metals cannot be held responsible for the aesthetic appearance of Terne Coated product once it is installed in the environment.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

Terne (Z-T Alloy™) coated products are essentially maintenance free with no protective surface painting or treatment required. The Terne coating does not accommodate fungal growth or lichen. To avoid staining due to oxides or chemical reaction, debris should be removed promptly. Discolouration due to this is an aesthetic problem only.

Remove excessive dirt and construction debris by washing with clean water. Grease, oils etc. may be removed by washing with alkaline commercial cleaning agent in hot water. Do not otherwise chemically or mechanically clean Z-T Alloy™ coating.

All Terne Coated parts of a building not exposed to regular natural rain wash must be manually washed down at least twice annually to avoid white staining.

CORRECT HANDLING PROCEDURES

WARNING! All Terne (Z-T Alloy™) coated materials must be kept stored off the ground in a cool dry place with sufficient dry ventilation free of moisture. Keep materials covered to avoid the patina process taking effect. Any materials stored covered on site must be ventilated to allow condensation to escape (THIS ALSO APPLIES TO UNINSTALLED PANELS). Failure to protect Terne coated products in this way can result in wet storage staining (White rust). Ambro Metals Ltd cannot be held responsible for any damage caused due to incorrect storage and handling procedures.

DO NOT allow contact with inorganic acids, including hydrochloric acids. Care should be taken to protect against run off from acid leaching substance such as overspray from masonry cleaners (Muriatic acid) etc. Do not install bare Copper (Or other more noble metals), or Cedar shingles above Terne Coated products because this may result in Galvanic corrosion, staining or metal degradation.

TYPICAL END USES

Terne (Z-T Alloy™) coated products are readily used for almost all types of Architectural roofing and wall cladding applications (Standing seam, Batten seam, Flat lock, Flashings, Rainwater systems and many other applications). Terne’s popularity for these applications is due to it’s long life expectancy, low maintenance and beautiful natural weathered appearance.

SOLDERING

Terne (Z-T Alloy™) coated products are easy to solder, ensuring water tightness for specific construction details. Soldered joints blend in effortlessly with Terne coated material as both have substantial Tin content in common.

Use pure Tin, Lead free or high Tin solder sticks. For best results, a Tin bearing flux can be applied to all surfaces to receive solder. Please consult with Ambro Metals Ltd to discuss correct flux options.

CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION

Terne Coated products are compatible with almost all building materials (For further information please refer to the Warranties and Maintenance section). Additional roofing underlay’s such as Enka-Vent can be used to create a ventilation plane across the entire roof space contributing to the longevity of the build.

Roof space ventilation must be considered at the forefront of any building design. Without sufficient ventilation in the cavity behind roofing or cladding, moisture can build up and cause various corrosion issues, shortening the life of many building components within the structure.

All roofing and cladding must be installed in accordance with NZ Building Code “Best practice”, with appropriate separation membranes between the 17mm treated plywood and all roofing panels.
